Along with the basic pay, ISRO scientists are entitled to a Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) (which varies depending on the city of posting), and Transport Allowance (TA). When all these allowances are combined, the gross starting monthly salary for a Scientist 'SC' usually ranges between ₹85,000 and ₹1,00,000, depending on the location of their ISRO center.
The career progression at ISRO is merit-based and heavily relies on the Performance Review Committee (PRC). A Scientist 'SC' can be promoted to Scientist 'SD', then 'SE', 'SF', 'SG', and eventually to 'Outstanding Scientist' or 'Distinguished Scientist' roles. At the highest levels, such as the Director of an ISRO center or the Chairman of ISRO, the basic pay scales up to ₹2,05,400 or ₹2,25,000 (Level 16 or 17).
