Zomato Digital Marketing Interview Process

Prepare for the Zomato Digital Marketing interview. Discover how to tackle meme marketing, push notifications, and hyper-local performance ads.

Cracking the Zomato Marketing Interview

Zomato has one of the most beloved and aggressive marketing teams in India. Their strategy is divided into two strict pillars: wildly creative organic social media, and ruthlessly efficient hyper-local performance marketing.

The Interview Stages

The interview depends entirely on whether you are applying for "Brand/Social" or "Performance/Growth."

Track 1: Brand & Social Media Roles

Zomato’s Twitter (X) and Instagram are legendary.

  • The Assignment: "Write 5 push notifications for a rainy Sunday evening in Mumbai."
  • The Rule: No boring copy ("Order food now!"). You must be witty, context-aware, and concise. ("It’s pouring outside. Stay dry, let our delivery partner bring the Vada Pav to you.")
  • Moment Marketing: They will ask how you would capitalize on a trending meme (like a viral cricket moment) within 30 minutes.

Track 2: Performance & Growth Roles

Food delivery is a hyper-local business.

  • Question: "We are launching in a new Tier-2 city. How do you structure the Google Search campaigns?"
  • The Approach: You cannot just target "Food delivery." You must target micro-locations (e.g., "Biryani delivery near Indiranagar"). Discuss geofencing and radius targeting.
  • Retention Metric: "How do you increase the ordering frequency of a user who orders once a month to three times a month?" (Discuss Zomato Gold, gamification, and targeted weekend discounts).

Round 3: The Culture Round

Zomato is known for an intense, startup-like hustle culture despite being a public company.

  • "Tell me about a time you took a massive risk on a campaign and it failed completely."
  • Zomato respects failure as long as you own it and iterate quickly. Do not give a politically correct answer. Be honest about a campaign that bombed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be funny to get hired at Zomato?

For social media roles, yes. Zomato relies heavily on "moment marketing" and wit. For performance roles, it is strictly about CAC and hyper-local targeting.
