The Razorpay Design Interview Guide
Razorpay is the payment backbone of India. Unlike consumer apps where you design flashy animations, designing at Razorpay means solving massive B2B complexity. You are designing dashboards for merchants to track millions of rupees.
The Interview DNA
Razorpay looks for highly analytical "Product Designers." They care deeply about your UX logic, edge-case handling, and your ability to work within strict Design Systems.
Round 1: Portfolio Deep Dive (The "Why")
- The Process: You will present one case study.
- The Grill: They will interrupt you constantly. "Why did you use a dropdown here instead of a radio button?" "What happens if the user's internet drops exactly when they click this?"
- The Goal: They are testing if you design for the "Happy Path" only, or if you consider error states, empty states, and loading states.
Round 2: Whiteboard Challenge (Live UX Problem)
You will not open Figma. You will sketch logic on a whiteboard.
- Scenario: "Design a refund management system for a merchant who processes 10,000 orders a day."
- The Approach:
- Ask clarifying questions (Who is the user? An accountant or a founder?).
- Map the user flow.
- Sketch the layout, focusing heavily on data tables (How do you filter? How do you select multiple rows? How do you export data?).
Round 3: Design Systems
Razorpay operates on a massive internal Design System (Blade).
- Question: "Explain how you build a scalable button component in Figma."
- You must demonstrate knowledge of Figma Auto-layout, Variants, Variables (Tokens), and how you hand off design specs to developers.
Round 4: Product Manager Collaboration
- "Tell me about a time you disagreed with a PM on a feature."
- In FinTech, you must balance a beautiful experience with strict RBI compliance. Show that you understand business and regulatory constraints.
Final Advice: Your portfolio must include at least one complex web dashboard (SaaS/B2B). If your portfolio is only filled with colorful mobile apps, it will be very difficult to pass the Razorpay screening.
