Cracking the Mu Sigma Decision Scientist Interview
Mu Sigma is one of the largest pure-play analytics firms in the world, headquartered in Bangalore. They hire "Trainee Decision Scientists" in massive volumes from campuses, putting them through an intense bootcamp before deploying them to Fortune 500 clients.
The Interview Stages
The Mu Sigma process is famous for being highly unconventional, testing raw logic and puzzle-solving ability rather than syntax.
Round 1: Mu-Apt (Online Aptitude Test)
This is a tough, time-constrained test.
- Focus: Quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, data interpretation (charts/graphs), and complex pattern recognition.
- The Trap: Time management is critical. The questions are often deliberately tricky to test how you perform under pressure.
Round 2: Video Synthesis / Group Discussion

Final Advice: Mu Sigma wants "First Principles" thinkers. If they ask a math puzzle, do not just blurt out the answer. Take a pen and paper, talk out loud, and show them the exact logical steps you are taking to reach the conclusion.
