The Interview Stages
Infosys evaluates candidates based on technical competency and their core philosophy of "Learnability."
- Online Assessment: Aptitude and basic programming/SQL.
- Technical Interview: Focus on data manipulation and visualization.
- Managerial Round: Client interaction and problem-solving.
- HR Round: Standard hygiene checks.
Round 1: SQL and Data Warehousing
Infosys works heavily with traditional data warehouses.
- Question: "Explain the difference between a Dimension table and a Fact table in a Star Schema."
- SQL Focus: You must know how to write complex joins. "Write a query to find the second highest salary in a department." (A classic IT service company question).
Round 2: Visualization and Reporting (Tableau/PowerBI)
- Scenario: "A client wants a dashboard to track their global sales. What KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) would you include on the summary page?"
- Focus: Discussing layout, avoiding clutter, using the right charts (e.g., line charts for trends over time, bar charts for categorical comparisons), and setting up automated data refreshes.
Round 3: Managerial and Client Scenarios
Because Infosys is an IT service provider, you are a consultant to their clients.
- Question: "The client is demanding a new feature on the dashboard by tomorrow, but it takes three days to build. How do you handle this request?"
- The Approach: Do not say "I will work all night." Emphasize communication, scoping the request, and negotiating a phased delivery (e.g., delivering a basic version tomorrow and the full version later).
Round 4: The HR Round (Learnability)
Infosys prides itself on its training infrastructure (Mysore campus).
- "Tell me about a time you had to learn a completely new technology (like a new BI tool) in a very short amount of time."
- "Where do you see yourself in 3 years? Do you want to move into Data Science or remain in BI?"
Final Advice: Infosys values strong fundamentals. Don't claim to know Machine Learning if you are applying for a Data Analyst role unless you are truly prepared to be grilled on the math. Stick to demonstrating absolute mastery over SQL, data cleaning, and data visualization.
