Amazon Digital Marketing Interview Process

A complete guide to the Amazon Digital Marketing interview. Learn how to tackle data-driven case studies, ROAS optimization, and the Leadership Principles.

Cracking the Amazon Marketing Interview

Marketing at Amazon (whether for Prime, AWS, or the e-commerce platform) is ruthlessly data-driven. If you cannot back up your marketing strategy with hard numbers, you will not pass.

The Interview Stages

  1. Online Assessment: Basic data interpretation and Excel skills.
  2. Hiring Manager Round: Deep dive into your past performance campaigns.
  3. The Loop (4-5 Interviews): Case studies and Amazon Leadership Principles (LPs).

Round 1: The Performance Deep Dive

  • Question: "Walk me through your most successful paid campaign. What was the budget, the CAC, and the ROAS?"
  • The Trap: Do not say "We got 1 million impressions." Amazon doesn't care about vanity metrics.
  • The Answer: "We spent $10k. Cost Per Acquisition was $15. Lifetime Value was $60. The ROAS was 400%."

Round 2: The Data Case Study

You will likely be given a dataset of three different ad campaigns (Spend, Clicks, Conversions, Revenue).

  • Scenario: "Which of these campaigns should we scale, and which should we kill?"
  • The Approach: Calculate the CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) and ROAS for each. Look out for campaigns with high CTR but low conversion (indicating a misleading ad or bad landing page).

Round 3: The Leadership Principles (Behavioral)

Amazon bases 50% of the interview score on their LPs.

  • "Customer Obsession": "Tell me about a time you killed a profitable marketing campaign because it was bad for the customer."
  • "Dive Deep": "Tell me about a time a campaign was failing and you had to dig into the raw data to figure out why." (Use the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result).

Final Advice: Amazon marketers are essentially analysts who know how to buy ads. Brush up on your Excel Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs before the interview; they often give live screen-share tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Amazon marketing interviews highly technical?

Yes. They care less about your creative ideas and much more about your ability to analyze Excel data to prove why an ad campaign was successful.
