Landing a Network Engineering Role in India’s Tech Capital
In Bangalore, traditional “rack and stack” networking is dying. Startups don’t buy Cisco routers; they spin up AWS VPCs. To survive here, you must evolve into a Cloud Network Engineer or a NetDevOps Engineer.
1. Target Cloud Networking & Data Centers
Companies like Amazon (AWS), Google (GCP), and massive data center providers (Equinix) have a huge presence here.
- The Role: Cloud Network Engineer, Network Reliability Engineer.
- The Focus: You need to understand BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) at a massive scale, Direct Connect, and how to architect hybrid clouds linking on-premise servers to AWS.
2. Master “NetDevOps”
Do not configure routers via the CLI manually.
- Bangalore companies want network engineers who can automate. Master Python (Netmiko, NAPALM) and Ansible. If you can automate a switch configuration across 50 devices using a Python script, you are highly hirable.
3. The Global ISPs (Cisco, Juniper)
Bangalore houses the R&D centers for Cisco and Juniper Networks.
- The Role: Network Test Engineer, TAC (Technical Assistance Center) Engineer.
- The Focus: Deep protocol-level troubleshooting. You must know how to read Wireshark packet captures perfectly.
4. Build a Virtual Lab Portfolio
Don’t just list CCNA on your resume. Build a complex topology in GNS3 or EVE-NG. Write a Python script to automate the OSPF configuration across the lab, push the script to GitHub, and link it on your resume.
