Landing a Finance Role in “Cyberabad”
Hyderabad’s finance job market is heavily dominated by the Big 4 consulting firms’ offshore centers and the FP&A departments of Big Tech companies.
1. Target Big 4 Offshore Centers
Deloitte USI, PwC SDC, and EY GDS have massive campuses here.
- The Role: Audit Assistant, Valuation Analyst, M&A Tax Analyst.
- The Focus: You support the US/UK teams. You must be comfortable with US GAAP/IFRS accounting standards and intense Excel modeling.
- The Edge: Being a CA or having a CPA (US) will fast-track your career here.
2. Big Tech FP&A (Amazon, Microsoft)
- The Role: Financial Analyst (AWS, Prime, etc.).
- The Skills: Amazon finance roles are incredibly data-driven. Advanced Excel is not enough; you must know SQL and be able to extract terabytes of data to build financial forecasts.
3. Pharma Corporate Finance
- Working for companies like Dr. Reddy’s or Novartis in Genome Valley.
- Focus on R&D budgeting, supply chain finance, and international transfer pricing.
4. Interview Preparation
If interviewing at the Big 4, expect detailed accounting questions (“How do you account for capital leases vs. operating leases?”). If interviewing at Big Tech, expect behavioral questions alongside modeling tests.
